Flood Rescue

A Role Specific Design

Robust & Stable

The Concept

After watching the flooding in Australia over the last decade getting worse, it was only a matter of time that it knocked on our doorstep here in New Zealand. Our concept is born out of necessity following the response to the 2023 New Zealand floods.
The design requirements call for a robust, safe, stable, simple to operate, affordable, road legal amphibious vessel designed specifically for first responders for flood rescue.

Features

There is more to this ‘Ugly Duckling’ than meets the eye, everything is done for a reason.

Anywhere by Anyone, Anytime

With the boat and trailer combined, it leaves the tow vehicle uninhibited for other operations. More importantly, it does not necessarily have to be the vehicle that retrieves it, leaving the vessel to potentially travel long distances if required.

Road Registered as a Trailer

The prototype is a legal road trailer under 750kg, so no need for a brake system. Can be towed by any vehicle with a towbar.

Easy to Use

The vessel is designed around the concept of KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid).  Overly complicated vessel can become dangerous.

Catamaran Hullform for Stability

Rescue craft require the best stability possible for safety. Our catamaran hullform not only improves stability, but helps with tracking.

Inboard Suspension

Like a Formula 1 car, the suspension is inboard, not to improve aerodynamics but to keep the suspension out of the elements.

Wheel Lock Down System for Added Road Safety

Hidden under the skin is a clever locking system that takes the road loads off the electric actuators.

Low Maintenance Wheel System

As much of the wheel system is fabricated from aluminium and 316 Stainless Steel to reduce maintenance. The wheels articulate electrically.

Jet Outboard

When rescuing someone from the water, the last thing you need is a sharp propeller turning. It also aids in shallow water running.

Bow Door

Wide enough for a wheelchair, it also features steps for climbing out of the water.

Five Separate Watertight Compartments

Segregation is key to a vessel staying afloat if a compartment is compromised.

Solid Aluminium Construction

A strong low maintenance structure that is easily repaired if required.

There are plenty of other uses for the Guardian other than SAR, here are a few possibilities:

– Livestock Rescue – Conservation & Maintenance Work – Fishing – Spear Fishing – Diving – Family Adventures – Motorbike Transport –

The boat, ah, trailer, hmmm… Lets just call it the…

So… What’s Next?

More Innovation, That’s What! – Guardian Trailers Gen.II
  • Wider bow door capable of loading a quad-bike.
  • Improved ergonomics.
  • Faster wheel articulation, less than half the time from the prototype.
  • Improved survivability with nine compartment subdivision (2145 Litres reserve buoyancy).
Future Developments to Come
  • Powered jockey wheel for self maneuvering on land.
  • Larger versions with brakes for more load carrying.
